How to Read Vintage Wine Chart

I've created this vintage wine chart so that you can get an idea of which vintage wines are worth aging and which are not. Almost all charts you find will look just like this one, but will go back 20 to 30 years and will have more wine types listed. There are also scores listed which are just averages, but are pretty darn close to being accurate. When you see hold, that means you can hold the bottle from 2 to 5 years. Drink is exactly what it means, drink the darn thing. Hold or drink again it's the obvious. Past peak, I'm actually holding on to one of these. It's a 1973 Chianti 30 year anniversary reserve. It belonged to my parents which I believe they purchased from the San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles. This bottle is the type with the long neck (about 24 inches tall) and the bottom is wrapped in straw. Funny, I received another one of these bottles as a gift two years ago. Maybe some day one of my sons will be writing about that bottle.
