There is much more information on the SCV Wine Classic website, www.scvwineclassic.org. The event is the principal fund-raiser for the Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra, a multi-tiered instrumental educational program providing a positive, creative outlet for hundreds of youngsters. Over the past 15 years, the Youth Orchestra has given almost 150 performances and has been responsible for musically educating almost 3,700 young musicians. We raised $25,000 at last year’s event, and we would love to double the amount, this May. Our raffle always features quite a few expensive and desirable bottles of wine, a few for fun, plus various gift items. To date, the following raffle items have been acquired, with more to come: A double-magnum (equal to 4 bottles) of 2003 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon A magnum (equal to 2 bottles) of 1999 Joseph Phelps Insignia A magnum of 2004 Duckhorn Merlot A jerboam (equal to 4 bottles) of Tatinger Brut Champagne A bottle of 2005 Clos des Papes Chateneuf du Pape ( the Wine Spectator's 2007 wine of the year) A bottle of "All Shook Up," the official sparkling wine licensed by Graceland Cellars of Elvis fame, plus several additional items. A wonderful book on wine pairing: What to Drink with What You Eat Ticket prices:From March 29 to May 30, $70 each/$130 a pair at the door, $80 each/ $150 a pair Group tickets (10 or more), $60 each Designated driver, $35 each Tickets for people who want to enjoy the event but not sample alcoholic beverages, $35 each Tickets are available by phone from the Public Information Office at College of the Canyons, by phoning, 661-362-5604. Tickets are also available via the website: www.scvwineclassic.org. Credit cards are accepted. It's a fabulous event, for a very worthy cause. The only complaints are that it only lasts 3 hours, and is held only once a year. Jeff Jacobson, Chair, Wine Committee
