Red Wine

Cabernet Sauvignon is by far my favorite red wine. I'm fortunate to have had the chance to try some vintages from the 70's and 80's, thanks to my Father-In-law Noel. Since that time, I have tasted nothing like it, although I still am able to find some decent wines. A few years back, my wine of choice was Pinot Noir, I remember it was around the time the movie Sideways came out. Ah Merlot. Someone please correct me on this, but I think most of us who prefer reds started with this medium bodied wine. The description below pretty much sums it up for this one. Don't get me wrong I still drink it. Zinfandel to me is a much sweeter wine, but not a juicy sweet(semi sweet). I enjoy a bottle now and then. The are so many more types of wine that I think you would enjoy that are not listed. I'll be adding more wines here from time to time, so read on and enjoy.

Used for blending with other grapes

Grape Type: Merlot

Flavors: black cherries, currants, vanilla, plums, cedar, mint, cedar andtobacco.

Body: Medium Bodied

Factoid: Has a thinner grape skin which produces less tannin and a highersugar content.
This results in a higher alcohol content, therefore it does not age as well as a Cabernet Sauvignon.
Is considered a softer red wine, but still remains complex.

Grape Type: Zinfandel

Regions: California and Italy

Flovors: berries, dark cherries, blackberries, pepper and plums

Body: Full Bodied

Factoid: Originated in Italy and almost exclusive to California.
High tannins and complexity is comparable to the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Dark red appearance.
Semi sweet, hardy and robust.
